Certain TV shows illustrate what houses look like when people become hoarders, and these houses often have several common problems that must be fixed in order for the homes to be safe to live in. While this is something you may see on TV, this might also be a problem that you are currently dealing with. If your have a relative that is an extreme hoarder, you may want to step in and help this person regain control of his or her home, and here are three things you will need to do to make this happen.
Deal With the Trash
Before you can do anything with a home like this, you will need to get the trash out of it. It is not only a big job to physically remove all the garbage, but it is also a difficult task to convince the person to allow you to do this.
To convince your loved one to do this, it may take hiring a consultant, personality disorder expert, or psychologist. Professional help is often needed simply to help the hoarder understand the severity of the problem.
Once the person is convinced, it will be time to start working. To get the house cleaned, you will need:
After the trash is eliminated, there will still be major work to do to make this house safe for your loved one.
Call In the Exterminators
During this type of cleanup, extermination services are commonly needed. Bugs and rodents tend to enjoy dwelling in filth and clutter, and this house might need professional extermination services to ensure that the bugs and rodents do not survive.
To determine if this is needed, you may need to pay close attention to what you see as you are cleaning out the trash from the house. In most cases of hoarding, it is very easy to spot bug and rodent issues because you will see all the signs, and you may even see the bugs and rodents.
An exterminator can enter a home like this and perform the necessary services to eliminate the problems, but the exterminator must evaluate the situation beforehand. He or she must know exactly what the problems are so that they can be treated properly.
If the problems are extremely severe, the exterminators might need to perform services before the cleanup crew begins removing junk. If people are working in a home that is full of spiders, roaches, rats, or any other pests, it could put them in danger.
Hire a Remodeling Contractor
The final step of this process will be to hire a contractor to fix any problems with the house. If a person has been hoarding for a long time, there could be many issues that need to be addressed, including:
While all of this work can be expensive, each step is necessary to help a hoarder regain control of his or her home and life.
People living in homes like this are prone to many problems, including health problems and fire safety issues. If you are concerned about your loved one's health and safety, you will need to do something about this situation. Your first step might be to convince the person to let you help him or her, and your next step should be to call an exterminator such as Desert Pest Control. An exterminator will analyze the situation, and this will help you create a plan for cleaning up the mess.Share

I have always loved baseball, and when the world series arrives each year, I enjoy inviting my friends over to watch the games. As our family grew, it became difficult for all of our guests to fit in our living room. We decided that we needed a dedicated "man cave" in our home, but we didn't have an extra room to build it in. We thought long and hard about how we could add it, but we finally decided to turn our garage into the man cave and have a carport built onto our home to park our cars under. I have always been interested in learning more handy-work, so I enjoyed watching the contractors build both the man cave and car port. I thought I would start a blog to share what I learned during the building process to help other homeowners!
