Even though you might appreciate all of the customers who show an interest in your business, it can be a bit annoying to have customers standing in front of your automatic doors talking, looking or otherwise lingering. Not only can this cause energy waste because the door is being left open and is allowing the heat or cooled air from inside the building out, but it can also make it harder for other customers to get in and out. Luckily, following these tips can help you prevent customers from lingering in your retail doorways.
1. Invest in Automatic Doors
If you do not already have automatic doors in place in your place of business, it's a good idea to think about installing them. Automatic doors are a great investment for a few reasons; for one thing, they open and close automatically, so you do not have to worry as much about energy waste. This can encourage customers to go ahead and walk in when entering your business and to walk out more quickly rather than just lingering. Plus, you might find that your automatic doors are handy for other reasons as well, such as the fact that they can make it easier for customers to enter or exit if they have a disability or just have their hands full.
2. Move Enticing Items Further Into the Store
Another good way to prevent customers from lingering in the doorway is to place enticing items -- such as any stands that are displaying new items or sales ads that are posted up for customers to look at -- a little bit further into the front of the store. You'll want them close by so that customers will see them when they walk in, but you don't want them so close that customers will end up lingering right in the doorway to look at them.
3. Provide an Area Just Outside
In some cases, customers run into people that they know and want to chat, or they might need a moment to collect their items and thoughts before they leave the premises. If you set up a couple of benches outside of the door, you can provide a place for these things so that customers can be encouraged to go ahead and get out of the doorway when leaving your store.
If you have found that customers tend to linger in your retail doorways and if you'd like to put a stop to it, there are things that you can do. These are three tips that can help.Share

I have always loved baseball, and when the world series arrives each year, I enjoy inviting my friends over to watch the games. As our family grew, it became difficult for all of our guests to fit in our living room. We decided that we needed a dedicated "man cave" in our home, but we didn't have an extra room to build it in. We thought long and hard about how we could add it, but we finally decided to turn our garage into the man cave and have a carport built onto our home to park our cars under. I have always been interested in learning more handy-work, so I enjoyed watching the contractors build both the man cave and car port. I thought I would start a blog to share what I learned during the building process to help other homeowners!
