3 Things To Remember When Having Your Roof Replaced After A Hurricane

Construction & Contractors Blog

If your roof has been damaged beyond repair because of an instance of tropical weather in your area, you're probably hoping to have your roof replaced with a new one as soon as possible. Dealing with the devastation of a hurricane is tough, but remembering these things during the process of buying a new roof will help.

1. It's Important to Protect Your Home From Further Damage

First of all, you probably are not going to be able to have your roof replaced right away. Instead, you will probably have to wait until the rain stops, the flood waters recede, and the roads are safe and passable for your roofing contractor to travel. In the meantime, though, you do not want the damage to your home to become even worse. Since your home is vulnerable to serious water damage when your roof is severely damaged, putting tarps on top of your home and securing them well is a good course of action that will help you keep your home -- as well as the people who live in it and the belongings that are kept inside -- safe.

2. You May Have to Pay Out-of-Pocket First

Even if you have homeowner's insurance to help with covering the cost of your roof replacement, don't expect to get the check from your homeowner's insurance company right away. It can sometimes take a while for homeowner's insurance companies to process claims, particularly during times when they might be receiving a lot of claims from policyholders, such as when a hurricane has affected a lot of people at one time.

If you want to have your roof replaced right away, you might have to pay out-of-pocket and wait to be reimbursed by your insurance company. Otherwise, you'll have to be patient. Also, make sure that you are as cooperative with your homeowner's insurance company as possible when handling your roof replacement claim to make sure that the process can move quickly.

3. You'll Want to Think About Future Storms When Buying Your New Roof

When buying a new roof, it's a good idea to think about the possibility of a serious hurricane coming back through your area and causing devastation again. Because of this possibility, you'll want to both make sure that you choose a durable roof and make sure that it's installed properly so that it will be as well-protected against a potential future storm as possible.

Adding a Man Cave to Your Home: Tips

I have always loved baseball, and when the world series arrives each year, I enjoy inviting my friends over to watch the games. As our family grew, it became difficult for all of our guests to fit in our living room. We decided that we needed a dedicated "man cave" in our home, but we didn't have an extra room to build it in. We thought long and hard about how we could add it, but we finally decided to turn our garage into the man cave and have a carport built onto our home to park our cars under. I have always been interested in learning more handy-work, so I enjoyed watching the contractors build both the man cave and car port. I thought I would start a blog to share what I learned during the building process to help other homeowners!
