Time To Design Your Landscaping? 4 Reasons Decorative Rock Is The Way To Go

Construction & Contractors Blog

Now that you're in the process of designing the landscaping for your new home, don't let the hard work take the fun out of it. Formulating the design concepts for barren land requires a lot of thought and attention. Not only do you need to consider the work that needs to go into implementing the design, but you also need to worry about the work that will be needed to maintain the appearance of your design. If you haven't incorporated decorative rock in your landscape designs, you need to; especially if you were thinking about going heavy on the natural lawn. Here are just four of the reasons you should choose decorative rock over a grass lawn.

No Intensive Yard Prep Needed

If you're looking for landscaping ideas that won't require extensive prep time, take a close look at decorative rock. Unlike a grass lawn, the rock won't need any lengthy soil prep, such as tilling and fertilizing. Instead, you'll simply need to apply a weed killing solution and cover the area with landscape cloth. Once that's been done, the decorative rock can be brought in and distributed throughout your yard. Best of all, you can create unique shapes and pathways using multiple colors, sizes, and textures of rocks.

No Watering or Fertilizer Needed

If you're thinking of covering your yard with natural grass, you'll want to consider the amount of water and fertilizer that will be needed. Your new lawn will require the perfect combination of both water and fertilizer. Too much or too little of either, and your lawn will die. However, with decorative rock, you won't need to worry about water or fertilizer. Simply create the rockscape and enjoy it.

No Mowing Needed

If you don't want to spend your weekends tending to yard maintenance, you need to choose decorative rock for your landscaping. This is particularly important if you're moving into a planned community. Most HOAs have strict guidelines for how natural lawns should look. You may find that you need to mow your lawn at least once a week to remain in compliance. That can take a big chunk out of your free time. You can avoid the lawn mowing altogether by choosing decorative rock over a grass lawn.

No Pest Control Needed

If you live in a region where pest infestations are a real threat to lawns, you need to choose decorative rock. Pests such as ants, grubs, and beetles will destroy your lawn from the roots up. Unfortunately, by the time you realize you have a pest problem, your lawn will already be destroyed. With decorative rock, you won't need to worry about pest damage.

Adding a Man Cave to Your Home: Tips

I have always loved baseball, and when the world series arrives each year, I enjoy inviting my friends over to watch the games. As our family grew, it became difficult for all of our guests to fit in our living room. We decided that we needed a dedicated "man cave" in our home, but we didn't have an extra room to build it in. We thought long and hard about how we could add it, but we finally decided to turn our garage into the man cave and have a carport built onto our home to park our cars under. I have always been interested in learning more handy-work, so I enjoyed watching the contractors build both the man cave and car port. I thought I would start a blog to share what I learned during the building process to help other homeowners!
