I think most of us are now on the bandwagon
regarding the importance of the mental game of
baseball. There is no secret
that baseball psychology plays a large role in the consistency of players today. But how do you know if you are in need of
some mental adjustments? Consider
these questions for starters:
1.
Do you tend to have less success in
pressure situations because of worry or tension?
2.
Do you suffer a confidence drop
when you go 0-4 at the plate?
3.
Are you what many consider to be a
perfectionist and get extremely frustrated when you fail?
4.
Are you often worried about what
your coaches or teammates think about you on the field?
5.
Do you have inconsistency problems
on the field?
6.
Do you experience any prolonged
frustration or emotional swings from game to game?
If you
answered “yes” to any of the above questions, you are in fact a player that could benefit from
improving your baseball psychology.
Just like
the skills you develop to become a great pitcher, hitter, or fielder, there are skills you need
to develop in order to become a master at the mental game of
baseball as well. When you
spend time looking for coaching, reading baseball psychology books/articles, and listening to
those who have mastered the mental game of baseball,
you will begin to learn the skills that will elevate your game tremendously.
